Similan Islands prove to be a great destination for scuba diversI have been following a great set of reports covering a trip made on a Similan liveaboard by a writer on Travel-Dive, Mark Milburn. The Similan Islands, located about one hundred kilometers northwest of Phuket, are composed of nine granite islands covered in tropical jungle. They have been designated as a national park and there are no resorts on the islands. Mark’s liveaboard trip also included the islands of Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock, and it looks like there is some great diving in this area.

Mark managed 31 dives over the two week trip and had some great experiences;

Even though this was my third trip to the Similan Islands there is always something new, new people, new friends. A few firsts for me, the biggest Black Tip shark I have seen, the young Devil Scorpion Fish, Bump-head Parrotfish, the colourful blue and yellow ribbon eel, the biggest crab I have ever seen and another wreck. For some reason I really like the photo of the red hermit crab and it is probably my favourite from the 348 photos I took on the trip. Altogether I took over an hour of video footage, my first time with my set up in clear blue waters didn’t quite give me the results I was hoping for.

Mark really writes well and makes it extremely tempting to book a trip right now.Covering the whole five days of his trip and an epilogue the articles can be read in full at Travel-Dive;
