Good Samaritan saves life of Scuba Diver June 28, 2006
Posted by Andy Carroll in : Accidents , trackbackA short news item at kfmb highlights the perils of diving alone, and the willingness of passersby to step up to the mark when the brown stuff hits the fan. A female scuba diver was seen to be struggling alone by two Kayakers who dragged her into shore. A former lifeguard, Christian Tuskes, then stepped in and effectively saved her life. Where was her buddy? What buddy.
“When we brought her in, she wasn’t breathing at all,” said good samaritan Christian Tuskes. “Her face was blue, hands were blue, tried to do CPR on her.”
Victoria Einhorn saw it all from her hotel balcony.
“Today when people are so afraid to step in, this guy didn’t even know her, and he was such a hero,” Einhorn said.
“I was checking for a pulse, and it seemed like the compressions were working,” Tuskes said. “There was more and more water coming out of her mouth.”

The diver was not diving alone. She was with a group of 4 plus a divemaster. The kayakers took her from myself and the divemaster to facilitate her getting to shore more quickly. We are greatful that the kayakers could assist and help, but unfortunately the diver’s brain swelled later that evening which caused brain death and she was taken off life support on Tuesday June 27th after family members had a chance to say good-bye.
My apologies Bill, and thankyou for providing more information, even though it is not the positive outcome we all wished for.
