Sra Keow cave in Thailand explored to 201 mtrs depthCedric Verdier emailed me a little while ago regarding his latest exploits in Thailand. he recently dived the Sra Keow cave to a depth of 201 mtrs using his Megalodon rebreather. He is now one of only three divers who have explored the system deeper than 150 mtrs!

Gradient Factors Explained July 19, 2006

Over at Yorkshire Divers Garf and Mark Powell have collaborated to produce a nice explanation of Gradient Factors. Gradient factors are used in some decompression software packages to adjust the Buhlmann algorithm, usually with the aim of inserting ‘deep stops’.

I found this interesting article on a blog called tenfootstop. It covers some research conducted by a group at the Israel Naval Medical Institute in Haifa, Israel and led by Dr.s Arieli, Shochat and Adir. The study examined dives done using a close circuit oxygen rebreather and sampled 2527 dives from 473 divers. The results follow;

Scuba Diving in Greece: Athens July 14, 2006

AthensI mentioned yesterday about a trip report written regarding diving in the Aegean Sea, and exploring the Hellenic Underwater Times a little deeper I found some great information regarding diving in Athens. Diving in Greek waters was effectively banned until recently when the Greek authorities changed the legislation to lift many of the restrictions, and so diving in Athens might become popular as it is essentially an unspoilt environment;

There are at least 4 modern wrecks in depths permitted to recreational divers and other 4 in depths reached easily by technical divers and most dive sites are accessible by car. Many more may wait to be found once the area they rest is dived a few times…

Team Delta identify a new wreck, the Progress 3 July 14, 2006

Team Delta identify a new wreckMark Chase posted a great trip report at Rebreather World, covering a recent dive trip he made in the English Channel, with the aim of diving new ‘marks’ and hopefully identifying the vessels. During the trip they made three dives, and one of the team found a bell which identified one wreck as the Progress 3.

Intriguingly, they found a wreck which Mark christened as the ‘Bolder Wreck’ and he was reluctant to give out any details, so this might be a bit special;

Suwannee County is the #1 cave-diving destination in the world July 14, 2006

There is an interesting article in the suwanneedemocrat website, which highlights the great cave diving available in the region. Suwannee County is apparently the world’s most popular cave diving destination, and in the article Janet Schrader interviews a cave diving instructor, John Orlowsky, who has been cave diving and teaching cave diving for many years;

“I started coming down here when I was teaching scuba diving at the University of Pittsburgh,” Orlowsky said. “I talked my students into trying it, took a class in cave diving and fell in love with it.”
