Rescued Scuba Diver exposed as a hoax September 8, 2006

Posted by Andy Carroll in : News , trackback

I just can’t figure out what Matthew harvey was thinking when he decided to set up this hoax. I recently covered the story of Matthew Harvey being lost at sea for three days and being found by a passing yacht. It turns out that Matthew had actually been on a ferry trip to the UK instead of floating in the sea being protected by dolphins, as he claimed. He apparently got on a ferry to the UK Saturday lunchtime, and then returned Monday evening, just one and a half hours before being found by a yacht crew. This from the BBC;

In a statement, police said he had been in the UK while he was missing. Mr Harvey was unavailable for comment.

Chief Inspector Ruari Hardy of Guernsey Police told the BBC that Mr Harvey got on a ferry on Saturday lunchtime and returned on Monday evening, about an hour and a half before he was found by a yacht crew in the sea off Fermain Bay.

He said: “A member of the public contacted us and we were then able to establish that he had been in the UK and we were able to track his movements.”

Mr Harvey has been interviewed by police, but no decision has been taken on whether any action will be taken against him.

Throw the book at him is what I say. What a complete muppet!

Thanks to Jag for sending this in.

That’s too bad. I’m glad now resources we dedicated to finding a diver who wasn’t missing though. At least that is one good thing.

what an arse**le he is with nothing better to do than waste people’s time and scare his family to death …he seems very shallow …

Imagine what his wife thought when she learned that he WASN’T dead but was, in fact, relaxing in the UK! I guess he didn’t have much invested in that relationship.

Absolutely pathetic attempt at getting attention by that guy. I wouldn’t give him the time of day now. Does he not realise the trouble, shock and sadness his family must have gone through when they thought he was dead?
