UWATEC unveils new Aladin dive computerScubapro have announced their latest scuba diving computer, the Aladin TEC 2G. This seems to be causing quite a splash within the diving community, and funnily enough, I have just ordered the existing TEC model for myself to replace my broken Suunto Vytec. This from the press release;

The latest addition to the Aladin Dive Computer line. The TEC 2G is an easy-to-use two-gas computer offering decompression calculations that adjust to your actions. Engineered for advanced and demanding divers, the TEC 2G offers a sophisticated predictive multi-gas algorithm, fully adjustable settings and the compact size and accessibility of the Aladin line.

A sophisticated algorithm with proven safety records
Bühlmann ZH-L8 ADT MB PMG
(Adaptive Microbubble Predictive Multi-Gas) — This algorithm performs its decompression calculation taking into account all planned gas switches throughout the dive. This means that the decompression schedule shown on the display gives you the actual total time of ascent. In the background however the algorithm also calculates the decompression schedule for the currently active gas only, so that if you fail to switch to the “deco gas” at the planned depth, the computer can quickly revert to this calculation. You can look up the active gas calculation at any time with the press of a button.

Maximum freedom in full safety
· Gauge mode: Operates as technical depth gauge to a depth of 120 meters/400 feet, with one-press stopwatch function.
· Bookmark function during dive.
· Altimeter: Accurately measures altitude with a 15-meter resolution.
· Nitrox compatibility 21-100% oxygen concentration in 1% increments and diver adjustable partial pressure of oxygen (ppO2) 1.0 to 1.6 bar.

Technical features
· Profile storage of up to 25 hours
· Replaceable screen protector
· Infrared technology
· User-replaceable battery

“This algorithm performs its decompression calculation taking into account all planned gas switches throughout the dive.”

I think this is a great feature. I hope it presents it in an unconfuxing manner.

Scubapro make some decent dive computers, and I’m sure this one will be no different. Although saying that, my SmartCom computer broke for the 2nd time in 12 months with the same fault back in August. Hopefully this computer is more reliable!

is there anyone selling the aladin tec 2g in the states? so far online all I see are British resellers. is it even available out here?

although the tec 2g is the best I have seen so far…I will also say I own one….uwatec is fairly non caring when it comes to supporting the product.
no matter where you purchase a product its the same thing and the parent company should be obligated to support it.
also the software that is available for it is great….as long as you use a PC.
MAC users are left out in the cold with an incredibly poorly written and deficient piece of cra….. uh…software that dosnt even work like they say it should.
the bookmark feature is very cool but usless unless you download to the software. the MAC version dosnt show these. so I end up paying for a featue that I cant use.
like so many other companies out there uwatec/scubapro should be ashamed.
in short:
great computer…crapy support.
