I guess the whole world now knows that Steve Irwin, the famous crocodile wrestling aussie, was killed whilst scuba diving with Stingrays on the Great Barrier Reef. Steve wasn’t supposed to be diving with stingrays however, but was on the hunt for stonefish, as part of a documentary. Unfortunately, as there were no signs of the stonefish, he decided to swim with stingrays instead. A real shame. This from news.com.au;

A scuba diver who was diving near Fermain Bay in Guernsey was found on Monday evening after being lost at sea for three days. Matthew Harvey, 35, was admitted to Princess Elizabeth Hospital suffering from extreme exhaustion.

This is quite a feat, and lucky I guess that it is summer where the sea temperature is 15 degC or so. Still, he must have been wearing some sensible thermal gear and a drysuit to keep the hypothermia at bay.

Robert Hewitts ordeal recaptured, 75 hours floating in the seaI wrote about Robert Hewitt when his ordeal was first announced. Whilst scuba diving off the Kapiti Coast near Mana Island Robert went missing and search efforts failed to locate him. Amazingly he was found 75 hours later after having floated in the ocean with no food or water, other than some shellfish he had collected whilst diving.

It seems that his ordeal is going to be made into a documentary, and Studio 178 are currently beginning the project which will involve 15 days of filming and six weeks of post-production work, the documentary expecting to be screened early 2007. This from stuff.co.nz;
