Heart attack killed rebreather diver, coroner says July 12, 2006
Posted by Andy Carroll in : Accidents, Rebreathers , add a commentDivester reported back in August 2005 that Gerry Tychansky, who had been scuba diving whilst assisting the making of a low budget horror movie, Marina Monster, died during the shoot. The result of the investigation into how Gerry died has been published by the coroner, who has concluded it was a heart attack.
Terry was diving with a rebreather, and it seems that many fatalities associated with rebreathers conclude with a heart attack verdict, but this does not seem to mirror fatality verdicts whilst scuba diving, which are usually confirmed as death by drowning. Gerry was only 43 years old. This from the Hamilton Spectator;

Cis-Lunar developing new rebreather with DP Scandinavia May 22, 2006
Posted by Andy Carroll in : Rebreathers , 1 comment so farThe Cis-Lunar rebreather was originally launched in 1998 with Dr Bill Stone and has been regarded as one of the best rebreathers available. The MK5 are still considered the ‘best-in-class’ rebreathers by many in the rebreather community. Cis-Lunar couldn’t raise the finances to mass produce the rebreather though and they ceased production in early 2000.
Well, now it seems that the Cis Lunar could be back, as Dr Bill Stone has teamed up with a Swedish industrial group, DP Scandinavia, according to OutdoorNewsWire

Megalodon Rebreather used to push cave in 201 mtr dive May 18, 2006
Posted by Andy Carroll in : CaveDiving, Rebreathers , add a commentCedric Verdier, a Technical Diving Instructor Trainer since 16 years, pushed the limits of the Sra Keow Cave in Thailand to 201 m/ 663ft, says Deeper Blue
For this 6 hour-long dive, he used a standard ISC Megalodon Closed-Circuit rebreather with an axial scrubber and no major modification (except oil-filled handsets and battery compartments to withstand the pressure). The Megalodon CCR performed flawlessly at these extreme depths. This dive is supposed to be the deepest dive ever done with a Megalodon, and also the deepest cave dive/rebreather dive ever done in Asia.
