It sounds ghoulish but it might be educational to see the footage. We know that stingrays are benign creatures–what caused it to attack–was he too close and at the same time did the creature feel its escape route blocked by cameramen?

Pre Buhlmann there were guidelines for delayed decompression if you had been unfortunate enough to come to the surface not observing the proper acsent speed.

Is anyone aware of the recommendations for delayed decompression when one uses the Buhlmann ZH-L16 tables?

Why is there so much money available to explore the planet Mars, but we can’t fine the money and interest in our Canadian and U.S. governments to search for a historic ship that was the first to sail the Great Lakes in 1679? Money wasted on Mars exploration does not seem to generate much interest for the general public. Yet finding the Griffon would be like finding the Holy Grail of all the ships that have been lost and never found in the Great Lakes. We have the equipment and technology to start a search. We only need the desire and interest to find LaSalle’s Griffon a reality!

although the tec 2g is the best I have seen so far…I will also say I own one….uwatec is fairly non caring when it comes to supporting the product.
no matter where you purchase a product its the same thing and the parent company should be obligated to support it.
also the software that is available for it is great….as long as you use a PC.
MAC users are left out in the cold with an incredibly poorly written and deficient piece of cra….. uh…software that dosnt even work like they say it should.
the bookmark feature is very cool but usless unless you download to the software. the MAC version dosnt show these. so I end up paying for a featue that I cant use.
like so many other companies out there uwatec/scubapro should be ashamed.
in short:
great computer…crapy support.

Most of the time when I’ve hired kit (in the UK) I’ve been asked to show my certification card. Even when I’ve just hired a tank. I guess this is not the answer though as you can qualify with minimal experience, then not do any diving for years and still be considered “qualified”. I think at the end of the day it is your own responsibility to keep yourself safe. Don’t dive if you’re not happy and make sure your up to it before going back into the water after a long time off diving. Accident figures rise noticeably here in the UK as soon as the waters begin to warm up after the winter.

Okay, so this isn’t the first dive fatality I’ve heard about like this, but I never hear the news explain WHY it happened, i.e. why was this diver diving without his buddy? Is that usually when such accidents happen, or maybe did he simply lose his buddy, and after looking around for him his buddy surfaced without him, hoping to meet at the surface?
Why do you think these sorts of accidents happen?

it’s so sad when any diver dies in your sport, but the certification process should first teach a diver not to dive if anyahing (conditions, equipment, buddy, other divers, lack of having a dive master close by, etc.) aren’t right.
And where was his buddy?

I like reading DrMike’s stuff. It’s good armchair training because I get to think through the situations myself. And you know what? There are some mistakes he’s made I just know I wouldn’t. Which gives me just a bit more self-confidence, given the guy’s massive experience. I hope I don’t end up posting too many of my own though…
